The mountains, gorgeous sunsets and scenic hikes provide a perfect hook to visit Park City for the first time. What keeps many people coming back is the endless discovery of art in this evolving mountain town.

More than 20 galleries line Park City’s historic district and beyond, so the best way to experience the treasure trove of art is to grab a map provided by the Park City Gallery Association and walk the picturesque route to each venue. ¬ e robust collections of galleries range from abstract prints to intricate sculpture, and new work is debuting continually. In fact, the artistic variety is what sets Park City apart from other destinations.

Susan Meyer, owner of Meyer Gallery, says Park City has become a mainstay for major art collectors. “Park City has a wonderful and rich variety of options for art lovers that has grown over the years. What may surprise people the most is the volume and quality of art galleries, live theatre, outdoor concerts and more.”

From an artist’s perspective, Park City has significant clout in the art world, especially among mountain towns. Je Pugh says, “¬ e quality and diversity of the galleries in Park City seem to sort of encourage everyone to push for stronger work all around. I know that if I go into a gallery to see work, I will be engaged by what is shown.” Artist Santiago Michalek, who got his start exhibiting in Park City added, “I’m proud to be a part of an art movement with such a rich history. As an artist, I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to be a part of a fantastic art market.”

For those wanting to immerse themselves in the local flavor, galleries are the best place to mingle with locals. According to Maren Mullin, owner of Gallery MAR, “¬ e galleries remain locally owned and are truly the mom-and-pop stores of Park City. We live here, our kids go to school here and we are passionate about enriching our community with visual art.”

Plan your trip for a time when gallery owners pop a cork and share stories with their visitors during the Last Friday Gallery Stroll. ¬ These free community events give everyone the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments while exploring Park City’s diverse art scene. ¬ e marquee celebration of art is the 48th Annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival, August 4 – 6, 2017. Beyond the regular galleries staying open, ¬ e Kimball Art Center brings over 225 jury-selected artists from around the country to Park City for approximately 55,000 attendees to enjoy.
